Vaccine Targets

Avian Pathogenic Eschericia coli (APEC) is the causative agent of colibacillosis is a major problem for the poultry industry. Control of colibacillosis has been problematic with increased restrictions on antimicrobial agents placed for use in the poultry industry.  Vaccine based control strategies, where appropriate, are desirable but have proven difficult as APEC are serotypically diverse and vaccines often failing to protect against all but homologous strains.  Current work in my lab looks to identify potential vaccine targets by using a proteomic approach.
